Sections:

  1. Part 1 Introduction and interview (4-5 minutes): answer the questions about familiar topics (family life, work or study, and interests)

  2. Part 2 Long turn (2-3 minutes): read a flashcard, 1 minute to prepare a topic, and have 1-2 minutes to speak about it, examiner may ask you a few questions when you have finished talking

  3. Part 3 Discussion (5-6 minutes): discussion with the examiner on more abstract ideas related to part 2


  1. The level of difficulty depends on your language skills

  2. Accent not evaluated, but only the pronunciation

  3. Be sure to use complex grammatical structures flawless, but better use them than none

    1. Conditional clauses

    2. Time clauses

    3. Reported speech 

    4. Modal verbs

  4. If you don’t the answer, just explain why you don’t know

  5. You can make use of the 1 minute to think rather than just keep writing

    1. Answer each sub-question

    2. Giving example 

    3. Talk about how it relates to you

  6. 4 evaluations

    1. Grammatical range and accuracy

    2. Fluency (talking smoothly without hesitation) and coherence (logical and making sense)

    3. Lexical resource

    4. Pronunciation

    5. Using connectors

      1. firstly, secondly, last but not least

      2. Moreover, furthermore, in addition

      3. consequently, therefore, as a result

      4. In order to, so as to, so that

      5. To put it differently

      6. What do you call it… wait for a second …… I have it right there

      7. Well….

      8. You see…..

  7. You can ask the examiner to repeat the question if you do not understand

    1. I am not sure I understand what you mean. Would you please repeat your questions?

  8. Tell the examiner to ask you another question if you really cannot think of an idea

  9. There should be 4 sub-questions for part 2

    1. Spend 30 seconds on each question

    2. You need to answer all of them 

  10. For part 3 

    1. Describe in details

    2. compare 

    3. contrast 

    4. Ideas 

    5. Generalize 

    6. Draw conclusions

  11. Bring emotion in the speech

    1. Try to be as native as possible

  12. Extend the speech when being asked

  13. Try to correct yourself if there is a mistake

  14. Try to innovate and make impressive content on your own

    1. Examiner know if you are spontaneous or not

  15. Extended response

  16. Pay attention to body language without overuse gestures
