EPISODE 16 We always judge ourselves

We always judge ourselves

1. The reason is that we can't hear ourselves properly

we have resonators on the nasal-pharynx and nasal cavity they are behind the ear, we can’t hear them well but they are best for sound-making and performance

we can’t judge it with accuracy

2. What judgement causes us?

a. Physical and Breath Tension

We can be judged by mass media, it is our culture

BUT judge may cause frustration and lack of growth

the act of listening & scrutinizing (仔細檢查) cause us to hold on

the performer should let it go and no judge on yourself

b. Pushing the voice

push the voice to hear it better, but won’t hear it as well and it won’t sound is good to you

not to push it just rely on the mechanics to make the sound good

3. we need the bad sound

a. for technique

we need cracking-bad sound to have a unique sound

we need cracking to make a mix

too good sound become yelling, too little the sound become a hissing

being able to find something between them is to mix

b. The uniqueness of singers

Eason also not having the prettiest sound

a little gravel (碎石), little breathlessness, little local fry

vibrato unique or uneven, or push too hard

having some strength in some area

which makes him remarkable

we don't need to sound necessarily the best

4. What to do about judgement?

a positive environment

with encouragement

tell yourself you can make it

have people you trust

ask for their advice

may okay with the experimentation and cracking

wide spectrum you can make in the performance

experiment with character sounds

we need physical relaxation

breath deep into the body

too high hard to relax
